Race day: 12/12/15For AP Psychology, my teacher Mrs. Belt invited me to join her group of fellow Eagles in the 2015 ugly sweater 5k at Willam Land Park in Sacramento. Luckily the race started at around 11:00- allowing everyone to sleep in a little bit. In preparation for the race, we went to Sports Authority the night before to pick up my number and race cap. On the morning of the race, we could not find any parking, forcing my mom to drop me off near the start of the race. Luckily they made it in time to see me start the race. I inched my way up through the crowd of people -finally making it to the front of the pack just before the starting gun went off. As the race started, a surge of energy and power came over me, causing my body to think it was more prepared for the 5k than it truly was... Sadly my out of shape body could only hold a six minute pace for a mile, and I was forced to slow down drastically... Over the next mile I dropped back in the front pack of fellow 5k sweater buddies, but going into the third mile, I tried pushing myself to get past those which weren't faster than me... Even though I thought I was out of has, I urged myself to have one final push in the last quarter mile - getting me up three or four positions in the last few hundred meters. After I had finished the brutal 3.14 miles, I progressed to the curb where I threw up my breakfast... But afterwards I felt good and lively, and celebrated with my mom and brother at "Dad's Burgers" in Sacramento. An awesome finish to my race!!! I can't wait to race again in January at the El Camino WEAVE run on the 18th.
